EUR and GBP near 2015 lows as dollar rallies

FXStreet (Córdoba) - Dollar strength was the main theme of the session on Thursday. The greenback strengthened sharply, specially versus its European peers during the New York session, dragging the euro and the pound dangerously close to multi-year lows scored last month.

The dollar rallied for no particular reason as investors continued to digest yesterday’s FOMC minutes. EUR/USD broke below 1.0700 and bottomed out at 1.0637, while GBP/USD fell through 1.4700 and hit a 3-week low of 1.4683.

USD/JPY rose past previous weekly highs and peaked at 120.73 while USD/CHF rallied to 0.9787. Commodity currencies weakened and erases early gains. Meanwhile, US stocks gained in late trade and finished higher.

During the Asian session, Chinese inflation data and Australian housing figures will be the main events.
